Yesterday we reported that Arsenal were set to send a representative to Valcenia to discuss the possibility of signing goalkeeper Vicente Guaita who they have been monitoring since last year.
Predictably a number of people complained on Twitter that they didn’t want a goalkeeper who was second choice at Valencia but you can’t help wondering if they will change their tune when they reliase that Barcelona were set to sgin him to replace Victor Valdes before Valdes decided to stay one more year at the club.
According to PlazaDeportiva Barcelona are still closely monitoring the situation and still see Guaita as a potential replacement for Valdes even though they stopped their attempts to sign him after Valdes decided to see out his contract.
The 26 year old has over 90 appearances for the Spanish side and while he has slipped down the pecking order he is still highly rated and seen as better than his current number two position.
A fee of €10m is said to be what would be needed to secure his services with Valencia not really open to selling but unable to resist a good offer.
It’s not clear who Arsenal have sent to Spain to negotiate with Valencia. Reports that it is Gunnersaurus are, as yet, unconfirmed.
